The Crossfield Community Sustainability Plan

Vision PosterThe Crossfield Community Sustainability Plan (CSP) is the plan that will define the future of Crossfield. This plan will:

  • Ensure that Crossfield is a unique, prosperous and attractive Town to live, work, play and visit today and in the future.
  • Be a document registered with the Alberta Government to define a path for the Town.
  • Identify priorities and set criteria to take advantage of federal funding available for sustainability.
  • Provide guidelines for town plans, policies and government decision-making.
  • Involve the whole community in defining their future.

Community EngagementIn early 2009, Town Council invited volunteers to form a Vision Committee to develop a Vision and oversee the process of creating a Sustainabilty Plan for the Town.

They are being assisted by the Town's urban planning consultants, Romanesky Urban Planning, as well as by the citizens of Crossfield who have helped enormously by answering surveys, participating in events and serving on the action committees.

The process should be complete by the end of November, 2009.

The Vision

Based upon input from 240 residents, the vision committee developed the following vision.

"This safe and peaceful place,
surrounded by fields,
with a view of the mountains,
and the city within reach
by road, rail, and trail;
this is my home town.

Everything I need
for work, for recreation,
for shopping, for learning,
for health, for family, and for my spirit
is right here.

As my community and I welcome the growth that brings
a wide range of neighbours, businesses, and industries,
we continue to cherish our small town ways
by beautifying our downtown, streets, and pathways,
honouring and celebrating our heritage, culture, and arts,
and finding solace in our wetlands, creeks, trees, and parks.

While we work together to serve our community,
raise our children, support our youth, and care for our elders,
some of us may move on,
but we’ll always come back to Crossfield."
